Kitchen Appliances

GENERAL OPERATING RULES

Carefully read the instruction manual and warranty limitations.
The machine must be connected to a grounded power outlet.
The machine must be kept clean by frequently washing the cup stand, the drip tray, the capsule holder, the tank and the glass cup holding surface.
Maintenance may only be performed while the machine is off .
IMPORTANT: never immerse the machine or its removable components in water or put it in the dishwasher.
The water contained in the tank must be replaced regularly.
Do not use the machine if the tank is empty.
We recommend descaling the machine at least every 2 months using a descaling agent made especially for espresso machines.
See instructions in the Descaling chapter.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances always follow the safety precautions below.

Using the espresso machine

  • Read all Instructions.
  • This machine is intended for household use only. Any other use is considered improper and therefore dangerous.
  • Unplug the power cord from the electrical socket when the machine is not in use.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. The water/coffee dispensed from the machine may cause burns.
  • The machine is intended for indoors use only.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • This machine is manufactured to make espresso coffee: use care to prevent scalding due to water jets or any improper use of the machine.
  • The machine is not designed to be used by people (including children) with limited physical, mental or sensory abilities or insufficient experience and/or skills, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety, who provides instructions on how to use the appliance.
  • Children must be kept under supervision to prevent them from playing with the appliance.
  • To protect against fi re, electric shock or personal injury do not immerse the cord, plug or the body of the machine in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not place the machine on, or near, electrical or gas burners or inside a hot oven.
  • The machine must be turned on only when being used. After use, it must be turned off by moving the main on/off switch “G” to the “0” position and disconnecting the plug from the power outlet.
  • Before unplugging the machine make sure that the ON/OFF switch “G” is in the “0” position.
  • Using attachments not recommended by the manufacturer may result in fi re, electric shocks or personal injury.
  • Do not let cord hang from the tables or counters. Do not pull the plug out by the cord and never touch it with wet hands.
  • Do not carry or pull the coffee machine by the cord.
  • To reduce the risk of injury, do not drape cord over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  • Do not use extension cords or power strips. In case of fi re, extinguish with carbon dioxide (CO2). Do not use water or powder extinguishers.
  • Never obstruct the vents on the base of the machine.

Installation of the espresso machine

  • Read the instructions carefully.
  • Do not install the machine in an area where the temperature may reach 0°C/32°F or lower (if water freezes, the appliance may be damaged) or higher than 40°C/104°F.
  • Check that the mains electric voltage corresponds to the requirements indicated on the machine data plate “M”. Connect the machine only to a properly grounded power outlet with a minimum rating of 6A for models powered at 230Vac, and 15A for models powered at 120Vac.
  • If the plug and the outlet are not compatible, have the plug replaced with a proper one by an authorized service center.
  • Place the machine on a countertop away from water taps and sinks.
  • After removing the packaging, check that the appliance is in perfect condition before installation.
  • Do not leave the packaging materials within children’s reach.

Cleaning the espresso machine

  • Check that the main on/off switch “G” is in the “0” position.
  • Unplug the machine before cleaning.
  • Wait until the machine is cool before cleaning.
  • Remove the water tank “L” by pulling it up slightly and then outward.
  • Clean the body and attachments with a wet cloth and then wipe with a non-abrasive dry cloth. Do not use detergents.
  • Do not expose the machine to extended jets of water or immerse it in water, partially or fully.

In case of malfunctioning

Do not use the appliance if the cord or plug are damaged or if the appliance shows signs of malfunctioning or has been damaged in any way. Take the machine to the nearest authorized service center for checks or repairs. If the power cord is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center. In case of damage or malfunction, turn off the appliance and do not tamper with it. For repairs contact a service center authorised by the manufacturer and request the use of original spare parts only. Failure to comply with these instructions may compromise the safe operation of the machine and will result in the forfeiture of warranty rights.

Improper use of the appliance

  • This appliance is intended for household use only. Any other use is to be regarded as improper and thus dangerous.
  • The manufacturer is not liable for accidents caused by non-compliance with existing legislation on electrical grounding systems.
  • The manufacturer is not liable for possible damage caused by improper, incorrect or unreasonable use.

This appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as:

  • staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments;
  • farm houses;
  • hotel in room, motels and other residential type environments;
  • bed and breakfast type environments.

IMPORTANT: SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLATION AND START-UP OF ESPRESSO MACHINE

Remove the water tank.

Fill with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level.

Push the water tank completely into the machine.

Plug into the power outlet

Switch the power button to “I” to turn on the machine.

After 30 minutes of inactivity, the machine goes automatically into the Power Save mode. The

button blinks slowly. Tap either button to turn on the machine again.

Warning: make sure that the capsule compartment “B” is properly closed before brewing coffee. Never open it while coffee is being dispensed.

Note: when using the machine for the first time or if it has not been used for some days, after placing a container of suitable capacity beneath the brew group “C”, we suggest running at least half a tank of water through the brew group without inserting a capsule.

PREPARING COFFEE

Use only “Iperespresso” capsules.

Other types of capsules cannot be used, as they could damage the machine.
Note: if a capsule is present in the compartment “B”, it will be automatically expelled when the compartment is opened. The capsule must slide easily into the compartment; if this is not the case take it out and reposition it correctly.

Place the espresso cup on the cup holder.

Or flip the cup holder tray up and place a MUG on the mug holder.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To enjoy a high quality espresso, remember to:

  • Change the water in the tank “L” daily.
  • If possible, use water with a hardness of less than 12 French degrees to reduce the deposits inside the machine.
  • Use warmed cups.

You can stop brewing coff ee before the automatic stop by again pressing the button you just selected.
Warning: in any case brewing will stop automatically after about 70 seconds. In this case coffee may flow out of the cup. Note: brewing a long coffee into a cup may overflow the cup

PROGRAMMING YOUR CUSTOM VOLUME/QUANTITY SETTING

Insert the capsule.

Lock by lowering the lever.

Release when the desired quantity of coffee is reached.

The new setting is saved. The machine is now programmed; the next time the

button is pressed, the programmed quantity of coffee will be brewed.

Factory settings indicate average times to brew the best illy coffee and are: / Strong coffee 16 sec / Espresso coffee 22 sec / Long espresso coffees 30 sec .
Furthermore, we recommend to use “blue” capsules (“long espresso”) to brew long coffees with a maximum extraction time of 30 sec.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Turn off the machine and unplug it.

Remove and wash the water tank.

Lift and remove the mug holder and wash it.

Remove the used capsule container.

Empty the container from used capsules and coffee and wash it.

Flip the cup holder up.

Remove the cup holder and wash it.

Insert the cup holder and flip it down.

Do not use the water left in the tank “L” for some days; wash the tank and fill it daily with fresh drinking water. The machine and its components must be cleaned at least once a week.
Do not use ethyl alcohol, solvents, abrasive sponges and/or aggressive chemicals. Do not dry the machine and/or it components in a microwave or conventional oven.

DESCALING

Read all instructions carefully before performing the cycle in order to familiarise yourself with the process. Duration: about 20 minutes.

WARNING: If the operations are not performed in the times indicated, the machine will not start the descaling process: therefore, switch the machine off and repeat steps 5 through to 9.

Turn off the machine.

Remove and fill the tank with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level.

Add 1 descaling bag and mix until dissolved.

Place a container of at least 1 litre (34 oz .) capacity under the dispensing spout.

Turn on the machine.

Within 15 seconds press and hold

for 7 seconds until you hear the tone. The

button blinks.

Press the

button twice more at intervals of 5 seconds (max).

The cycle starts.

When

is permanently on, the machine has completed the cycle.

Empty the container.

Wash the water tank thoroughly and fill it again with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level.

Place the container back in position.

Press

the machine performs the rinse cycle dispensing water at regular intervals.

When the cycle is completed, the button goes steady or the button light goes steady.

The formation of limescale is a natural consequence of using the machine. Descaling allows to optimise cleaning and removing scale deposits from the inside.

If the descaling cycle is interrupted due to a power failure or because the machine is switched off by mistake, the entire operation must be repeated before the machine can be used.

WARRANT Y LIMITATIONS

WARNING: If the descaling is not performed the limescale can cause malfunctions not covered by the warranty.
Use the descaling product supplied with the machine to descale for the first time. Do not use vinegar, lye, salt or formic acid because they may damage the machine.

Use only descaling agents suitable for coffee machines.
The descaling solution must be disposed of in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Do not drink the liquid dispensed during the descaling process; the machine can be used to make coffee when the descaling process is finished.

The warranty does not cover damage or malfunctions caused by:

  • Failure to carry out periodic descaling.
  • Operation with a voltage that differs from the rating shown on the data plate “M” (see “machine parts”).
  • Improper use or use that is not compliant with the instructions.
  • Internal modifications.

The warranty does not cover repair costs on machines that have been tampered with by unauthorized service centres. In this case all costs are paid by the client. We suggest:

  • not to wash the machine parts in the dishwasher;
  • to keep the recovery trays clean.

Failure to observe these instructions may cause damage to the machine which is not covered by the warranty.

WARNING:
It is advisable to keep the original packaging (at least for the duration of the warranty period) in order to ship the machine to a service center for repair if necessary. Any damage caused by transport without adequate packaging will not be covered by the warranty.

MACHINE STATUS INDICATORS

The buttons blink

The machine has been turned on and is warming up.

Steady + tone

The machine has reached the right temperature for brewing.

The espresso button blinks + tone

The machine is brewing an espresso.

The long espresso button blinks + tone

The machine is brewing a long espresso.

Slow blinking

The machine is in the Power Save mode. The machine switches into Power Save after 30 minutes when not used. To start the machine again just touch any button.

Dimmed light

The machine needs to be descaled.

Steady mode espresso button

The descaling cycle has been selected. In this status the tank should contain a descaling solution.

Flash alternately

The first part of the descaling cycle is in progress. Descaling solution is being run through the machine. The espresso button alone flashes progressively.

Steady mode long espresso button

The first part of the descaling is over. The tank must be rinsed out and filled with fresh drinking water.

Alternately blinking

The second part of the descaling cycle is in progress. Water is being run through the machine to rinse out the circuit. The long espresso button alone flashes progressively.

Rapid blinking

The machine has a malfunction. Turn it off and back on again after 30 seconds. If the fault is signaled again, contact a service center.

TROUBLESHOOTING

DISPOSAL

Disposal of end-of-life electric and electronic equipment by private households in the European Union. The WEEE symbol used on this product means that it must not be disposed of together with other domestic waste and should be collected separately. Consumers have the opportunity to hand in their used appliance
to distributors free of charge on a 1:1 basis when they purchase a new product..
For further information about the collection of appliances to be scrapped, please contact the local authority in your town of residence, the local waste disposal service or the retailer where the product was purchased. Consumers are responsible for disposing of end-of-life appliances in accordance with the current provisions of law and noncompliance therewith may be subject to fines and criminal sanctions.
The correct disposal of this product will contribute to protecting the environment, natural resources and human health.
